The practice develops heat in the body, which purifies the muscles, organs and nadies(the energy channels underlying the physical form). Through a continuous refinement and awareness of the breath, the mind is returned to a balanced, mediative state. Stress reduction, excess weight loss, and a general sense of well-being are natural side effects of yoga practice.
Throughout the retreat Caroline will guide the group into the depths of Ashtanga Yoga practice. The postures will be introduced sequentially, each posture preparing the body for the subsequent posture. The principles of Mulah Bandha(the root lock), Drishti(the gaze) and Oujaii Pranayama(the sound induced breath) will be applied throughout the practice. The retreat is open to everyone.
The retreat will take place at the majestic Fatuma's Tower.
About Fatuma's Tower:
Push open the painted wooden gates and enter a secluded, peaceful world. Tucked away in the sleepy Swahili fishing village of Shela, off the East African Coast is Fatuma's Tower. Deep green foliage of flowering trees speckle shade over the raked sandy pathways and tropical birds fly overhead. A light breeze carries the scent of the Indian Ocean as the sounds of the village fade away.
Meticulously restored in 1998, the historic tower house has six bedrooms and there are two further cottages within the grounds providing accommodation to suit individuals, families and small groups. Fatuma's Tower is furnished with hand picked antiques and local fabrics in a simple yet elegant style, which recreates the atmosphere of a fine Swahili house. No two rooms are the same and the cool, airy suites retain an informal feel while day beds and shaded balconies throughout the house provide comfortable spaces for relaxing and enjoying your time..
